As shown above, the Ents are tree-like creatures which both move and talk slowly. They are the oldest race on Middle Earth and thus are the most knowledgeable about the First and Second Ages. In their youth, Elves were introduced to Middle Earth, and the Ents and Elves quickly befriended each other. The Ents learned Elvenscript and any Ent you find today will probably speak Elvenscript and the Entish language, which has no other name. When the Ents of the world got weary and bored of life, some of them started to get more and more drowsy and unconscious of things around them. They started to stay sill and only eat and drink and sleep all day. These Ents' bodies started to become more and more like trees, and they lost most of their voices, but could hear quite well. This marked the birth of the Hourns, which are tired and transformed Ents. Ents are never really energetic, as they talk and act slow but meaningful and wisely. Even though they are weary beings, when they are arisen and angry, they are the most powerful (physically) than any other being told of in Middle Earth. Their bodies are so thick that not even thirty swings of a giant Orc's axe could make the Ent bleed. And one stroke of the hand of an Ent can send an Orc flying for half a mile, or if an Ent stepped on a creature, it would surely die instantly by force. In the background of the above picture, you can see trees and Hourns. Trees retaining the stone wall at right, and Hourns standing alone to the right. In the foreground, a stone table, stone cooking items and Hobbits may be found. The Hobbits are Merry and Pippin of the Company of the Ring, and the stone utensils are of the Ents, which would never fell trees. Fangorn is the Ent here. |
